Meet Francesco Scognamiglio
Meet Francesco Scognamiglio, the Designer Behind Beyonce's VMAs Dress
On the heels of Sunday evening’s MTV Music Video Awards red carpet, Francesco Scognamiglio is slated to be one of the most searched-for designers, having dressed singer Beyoncé - in a sheer floor length frock with a sculpted turtleneck, of sorts, composed of powder blue ostrich feathers (a look from his Fall/Winter 2016 couture collection) - for the occasion.
Hardly his first major red carpet placement, Naples, Italy-born Scognamiglio, who describes his design aesthetic as “strong, romantic, erotic,” boasts fans that include Rihanna, Lady Gaga, and Madonna, and in fact, he’s worked with Beyoncé before. The designer created a costume for her “Formation” world tour, namely a Swarovski-covered hooded bomber jacket and pants.
Scognamiglio has also made headlines recently for his inclusion in the July 2016 couture shows in Paris, his couture debut. He was invited by the Chambre Syndicale de la Haute Couture to be a guest member this season after showing ready-to-wear during Milan Fashion Week for fifteen years. He got his start at Versace, before branching out on his own beginning in 1998.
