Mariah Carey Makes ‘Empire’ Debut In Sky-High Christian Louboutins
Fans of the hit show “Empire” have been patiently waiting for Mariah Carey’s guest appearance, and last night finally marked her debut. The singer appeared onstage, playing a mega pop star — not far off from her own persona — named Kitty.
Carey looked much like herself, sporting Christian Louboutin’s Marlenarock pointed-toe heels and an embellished dress by The Blonds.
Her go-to sky-high shoes proved to be a challenge on screen as two men escorted Carey’s character off the stage to greet Taraji P. Henson’s Cookie Lyon. She even made mention of her footwear, saying, “The shoes, darling.”
If Kitty appears in more episodes in the future, she may give Cookie a run for her money when it comes to fashion.
Last season, Cookie’s luxurious wardrobe consisted of vintage Givenchy, Gianvito Rossi glitter heels, Manolo Blahnik pumps, Balmain booties, Altuzarra furs and Rochas Raffia sandals.
After being nominated for multiple Emmy awards, it’s clear Henson has fully immersed herself in Cookie’s character, but she told Footwear News that she makes a point to differentiate herself from her role.
“In my personal life, I stay away from prints because I have to find a me in this. Cookie has hijacked my entire life. So I really have to be conscious when I go out in public to look like Taraji,” she said. That’s why [I have] the bob [hairstyle]. … Cookie would never be seen in the bob — unless it’s the asymmetrical bob in a flashback [scene]. I have to have a look that’s Taraji.”
